Hazel's House - Part Two

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts.
I am currently working on Fairy Hazel's house.
Of course, she wants a"tree" house so I started adding bits of cardboard and foil for texture.

I was very interested in Sharon Ojala's technique for making bark so I decided to try it.

The only problem was that I found the cheap masking tape I used did not hold very well.
I gently tugged on the tape and the whole side came off.
This was not very encouraging, so I removed it all.
I also decided that this house was too big.
I originally wanted rooms connected by little hallways (kind of like a rabbit warren) but the footprint took up too much space, so out to the garage I went to modify it.

I decided to go upright, stacking the "room-boxes" to make a three story house.

This looks horrible right now, but I am confident that I can turn it into something interesting. I have plenty of scrap wood and some old dollhouse parts to use for my experiment.
Cheerio,
Sam

  1. I love the idea! And up seems like a great space saving choice - it fits perfectly with the tree house theme! The foil and tape also looked really promising! I am excited to see this one come together, and I know it will inspire me to get more creative!

stacked is much better for a tree house. I see real potential here. I saw a video over on youtube using that foil and tape technique for treehouses and it was remarkably effective. Persevere with it.. and it will be amazing! :)

  3. Hello Sam,
That is exactly what each section of my dollhouse looks like in the beginning. I am sure it will be awesome when you've worked your magic. Big hug

  4. You are a tough lady... I admire how you're turning the material you have into the material you need. And a tree house sounds great to me... with the foil pieces on the walls looking so familiar to me. So far I've used this method only for rock walls but of course this will be great for bark exteriors too. Fingers crossed that you'll find a way to cover them easily. I'm using something we call "structure paste" in German, a white paste originally meant for acrylic painting and for imitating snow. The nice thing about it is that you can easily color it before applying.

    Hugs
